(Update) Two people shot, man apprehended after standoff with police

     A Douglas County man is in jail after a standoff with police.
     According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, 59-year-old Francis Morgan Smith of Vanzant is charged with two felony counts of assault in the first degree and a felony count of armed criminal action.
     The incident began Sunday when Reserve Deputy Dakota Mings, with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department noticed a man walking down West Highway near Vanzant with a gunshot wound to the leg.
     Law enforcement agencies from Wright, Ozark and Howell Counties as well as EMS crews responded to the scene where the victim and another gunshot victim were located. The victims initially refused treatment.
     A perimeter was established around the house of the apparent shooter, Francis Morgan Smith.
     Multiple attempts to establish connection with Smith were made including providing him with a cell phone. After several hours, law enforcement officers made entry into the residence and apprehended Smith.
     A spokesperson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said they are unaware why Smith shot the victims, but the investigation is continuing and any new information will be released.
     Smith is on a 24 hour hold pending charges. His bond is $50,000 cash only bond with several condition including; no contact with either victim, he is under GPS monitored house arrest and he cannot be in the posssession of firearm.
