An area public school district received computer equipment through a federal agency’s donation. According to Buffalo National River Public Information Officer Caven Clark, the local park service recently donated 33 used computers and monitors to be split among the Ozark Mountain School District’s three campuses.
The Buffalo River used its authority based on an executive order signed by former President Bill Clinton in 1996 encouraging federal agencies to donate excess computer equipment to schools and community-based educational organization. This is the second consecutive year for computer equipment to be donated to the campuses of Bruno-Pyatt, St. Joe and Western Grove, and Ozark Mountain Technology Director David Pilgrim says the computers were used to build two virtual classroom computer labs allowing students to access online college courses. Outdated classroom computers were also replaced in the elementary schools.
Due to the donation, Ozark Mountain Superintendent Jayme Jones says the district will also be able to reallocate an estimated $35,000 to other areas of its technology department.
