Arkansas is taking part in the federal nationwide initiative, dubbed the Real ID ACT of 2005, to improve the security of state-issued drivers licenses and identification cards which will, according to the Department of Finance and Administration, help fight terrorism and reduce identity fraud.
In Arkansas, 25 revenue offices have been selected to start the issuance of the new licenses. Locally, Mountain Home's Revenue Office, located at 200 East 8th Street Suite 102, and Harrison's Revenue Office, located at 1020 Goblin Drive Suite A and B, will begin issuing the enhanced licenses Monday.
Jake Bleed, Spokesman with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, says enhanced licenses won't be mandatory until October 1, 2020.
