Accompanied by Mountain Home Mayor Joe Dillard, members of the community and students from Pinkston Middle School, Arkansas Highway Commission Chairman Dick Trammel officially reopened Highway 201 South Thursday during a ceremony on College Street.
After announcing the opening, Mayor Dillard and Trammel cut through a ribbon marking the completion of South College Street by state employees. The project was completed in early August, prior to the first day of school in Mountain Home.
The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department began work in 2015. The construction, which widened over a mile of College Street by Pinkston Middle School, cost just under $5 million.
The Arkansas Highway Transportation Department website says over 10,000 motorists use South College Street and the intersection of 201 South and the Sheid-Hopper Bypass every day.
