A Mountain Home man is charged with felony theft of property and four misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing for allegedly stealing lawn ornaments valued at $800 from a Mountain Home couples yard and selling the ornaments to a second hand store in Gassville.
According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, 24-year-old Michael Hobbs was arrested after the couple who made the initial report of the stolen items were driving thru Gassville and noticed what they believed to be their property on display in front of a second hand store. The couple went back to the store and were able to verify the ornaments were theirs based on paint they had applied.
The owner of the store told the couple he purchased the ornaments from Michael Hobbs. The couple then reported the information to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s investigators returned to the store and the store owner confirmed purchasing several items from Hobbs over a four month period. Among the items sold to the store by Hobbs, matches were made with prior theft reports from Buzzard Roost Road, County Road 457 and West Road. The value of the items stolen from those locations is valued at approximately $1,800.
Hobbs is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
Other items sold to the second hand store by Hobbs were not matched to theft reports at the sheriff’s office, but the sheriff’s office supplied KTLO news with photographs of the other items stole by Hobbs. Those who believe the ornaments belong to them are asked to contact Sheriff’s Sgt. Brad Hurst with the Criminal Investigation division at 425-7000.
