Morris pleads guilt to drug charges, sentenced to eight years

    Gerald Morris was sentenced to eight years in prison during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday after pleading guilty to drug charges.

    In January, a number of law enforcement agencies conducted a sweep in the county attempting to locate people who had failed to meet the requirements of their parole. The 35-year-old Morris was one of the people being sought.

    He was located and arrested at the apartment of his girlfriend. After being given permission to search the apartment, officers found three plastic bags containing containing white crystal matter and field testing for methamphetamine, with a total weight of approximately 27.5 grams. The search also turned up various items of drug paraphernalia — including digital scales, syringes and plastic baggies.

    According to court records, Morris has a lengthy drug-related arrest history. At the time of his sentencing Thursday, he was an inmate at the North Central Unit of the state prison system at Calico Rock serving time for an earlier conviction.
