71st annual Turkey Trot Friday and Saturday in Yellville

     The 71st annual Turkey Trot, one one of the oldest and largest fall festivals in the Ozarks, is Friday and Saturday in Yellville. Opening ceremonies kick-off the two day event at noon Friday on the Marion County Square. The afternoon’s musical entertainment starts at 12:30 with the Flippin High School Band followed by the Harp’s Lip Sync Contest for grades kindergarten through 8, Sam and Violet, Jimmy Joe and Friends, Mrs. Kelsey’s Buffalo River Cloggers and the Mellow Mountain Band with square dancing closing the evening’s activities.

     Lesley Edmonds, Executive Director of the Yellville Chamber of Commerce says the popular Mr. Drumstick Contest will be held at the main stage on the square.

     Saturday’s activities begin in the morning at 10 with the Mid-Marion County Rotary Parade lead by Grand Marshals Glen and Cheri Adams. Saturday’s music begins at noon with the Natural Disasters followed by the grades 9 through 12 Lip Sync Contest and the Adult Lip Sync Contest.

     New to this year’s Turkey Trot is the Turkey Family Feud which will be held at 4:30 p.m. on the main stage.

     Music resumes at Polynesian Ohana and the Turning Pointe School of Dance Performance. The Pam Setser band featuring Beci and Kent Coffey takes the stage at 6:30 followed by Buckshot from 9 to midnight.

     The annual Turkey Dinner at the Yellville Summit school cafeteria begins at 4:30. Tickets are $10 per person with a dollar discount for those wearing this year’s Turkey Trot button.

     Vendors with crafts and food will be surrounding the square all weekend, says Edmonds, with many food favorites returning.

     The Miss Turkey Trot and Miss Drumstick contest pageant was held last Saturday at the Yellville-Summitt school with Carley Eldridge crowned Miss Turkey Trot 2016 and Lauren Newberry crowned Miss Drumstick 2016. Other winner include in the Mr. Turkey Trot boys contest up to 3 years of age, Kash Burleson and 4 to 8 year olds, Joseph Woolwine. Winners in the girls and women’s categories are up to 18 months of age, Raylynn Casteel; 19 to 35 months, Raylann Eli; 3 to 4 year olds, Kadence Lasater; 5 to 6 year olds, Harlow Carlisle; 7 to 9 years, Nevah Boucher; preteens 10 to 12 years, Addie Jones; Teens between 13 and 16, Mariah Crespino; Mrs./Ms, Freedim Leatherman and Elite Mrs./Ms, Mary Beth Nichols. In the Jackpot Wear for girls up to 3 years of age, the winner was Lorelei Anderson; 4 to 6 years, Swayzeigh Broadway; 7 to 13 years of age, Nevah Boucher and over 14 years of age, Hannah Dover.
