A man and woman being held in Boone County have been charged with the murder of a Harrison man reported missing in late June with drugs suspected as the motive for the crime. In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Boone County Sheriff Mike Moore said the body of 28 year old Jeremy Scroggins was found late Monday and 22 year old Shay Corbett Butler of Harrison and 25 year old Morgan Michelle Vaughan are being held in the Boone County jail, according to the Harrison Daily Times. Butler is charged with capital murder, aggravated robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Vaughan will likely face charges of aggravated robbery.

Scroggins was last seen in the area of Gipson and Rock Springs Road in Boone County by his parents on June 27. During questioning by investigators from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police, Butler admitted shooting Scroggins and leaving his body in the area of Denning Cemetery where it was found. Butler told investigators he and Shay picked up Scroggins and drove to the rural location with the intent of robbing him. During the robbery Butler admitted shooting Scroggins twice with a .22 caliber firearm.

Sheriff Moore says conversations on social media led to Butler and Shay being developed as suspects. Butler was in the Boone County jail at the time of his questioning where he was being held since September 19 on charges of breaking or entering and theft of property and possession of methamphetamine.

Scroggins body has been sent to the state crime lab in Little Rock and the investigation continues, according to the sheriff.
