ELKS Lodge #1714 hosts Arkansas fall convention

     The Arkansas State ELKS Association has brought one of its biggest events to the Twin Lakes Area this weekend. ELKS Lodge #1714 is hosting the association’s fall convention that began Friday afternoon and continues through Sunday.

     ELKS trustee Stu Friend says the local lodge began trying to bring the convention to Mountain Home a few years ago because they believed they could get high attendance.

     Friend says the purpose of convention to discuss ways to better serve veterans and children in the local communities and the importance of membership. The event began early Friday afternoon with registration and hospitality at Ramada Inn. Saturday’s activities get underway at eight a.m. at Ramada Inn, and after a free period, the nearly 180 members in attendance will gather at the lodge for dinner. The convention will come to an end Sunday morning with a brunch at the lodge followed by a wrap-up meeting.
