NAEC line crew goes to east coast for hurricane preparations

     Portions of the east coast have already been declared states of emergency by President Barack Obama as Hurricane Matthew approaches. With widespread damage expected, a line crew from North Arkansas Electric Cooperative left Thursday to assist Central Florida Electric Cooperative in the event power is knocked out by the storm.

     NAEC Chief Executive Officer Mel Coleman says the crew was ready in advance to make the trip to Chiefland, Florida, to assist with restoration efforts.

     NAEC is one of at least four cooperatives in Arkansas sending crews to assist Central Florida Electric Cooperative who serves over 32,000 member accounts across a six-county area. Coleman says the local crew is also prepared for the possibility of having to travel to other portions of the coast.
