Stephen Wayne Nothwehr of Mountain Home who was arrested after allegedly pointing a pistol at his 16-year-old son and firing a gun out the window of his vehicle at several locations, appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday and entered a not guilty plea to charges of aggravated assault on a family or household member, carrying a prohibited weapon and endangering the welfare of a minor.
According to police records, the 39-year-old Nothwehr called his 16-year-old son on September 24th and asked that the son pick him up since he had been drinking and his vehicle is equipped with an interlock device that would not allow it to be started if the person attempting to drive it had been drinking.
The son reported that they drove to several locations and that, at one point, the son said his father had him stop at a liquor store. The son said the father was drinking in the vehicle.
The youth told police, his father was “griping about things” and he told his father to “quit being a cry baby”. Nothwehr is alleged to have pointed the pistol at his son’s head. The son said his father held the gun in that position for some time as they continued driving.
Nothwehr was eventually taken into custody at a residence on Ramona Road and the firearm was also located at that address.
Neither the 16-year-old, nor his 12-year-old brother, who had, at one point, been in the vehicle, were physically injured in the incident.
Nothwehr was ordered to reappear on October 27th.
