(AP) – Planned Parenthood says it will support “any and all”
efforts to defend its patients’ rights after Arkansas enacted a ban on a common
second-trimester abortion procedure.
Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes President and CEO Laura McQuade
criticized lawmakers in a statement Thursday for approving a bill banning the
procedure known as dilation and evacuation. Planned Parenthood and other
abortion-rights supports say it’s the safest and most common procedure used in
second-trimester abortions.
Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed the ban into law hours after it won
final approval in the state Senate. The ban will take effect later this year. A
legal challenge is expected.
