LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – A retrial in a defamation and wrongful termination lawsuit filed against the state treasurer and his former chief of staff is scheduled to begin next week.

KATV reports that the new trial begins Monday against Treasurer Dennis Milligan and his former chief of staff Jim Harris. They are being sued by former employee David Singer.

A mistrial in the case was declared in August a day after Harris complained of chest pains and was taken from the courtroom by paramedics.

Singer’s lawyers sought the mistrial, saying the scene might cause jurors to have sympathy toward him.

Harris, who has retired, is facing a defamation claim. Milligan is accused of violating the Americans With Disabilities Act.
