The Baxter County Sheriff’s Foundation recently received a $2,500 grant through the Twin Lakes Community Foundation to be used by the sheriff’s department for the purchase of five Kevlar vests for officers.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the grant came through a donor-advised fund established with the Twin Lakes Community Foundation. The fund was established by a woman wishing to teach her grandchildren the importance of giving. Each year the children choose a community organization who will be the beneficiary of an annual grant. This year the children wanted the funds to be used to keep law enforcement officers safe, since so many were being killed nationwide in the line of duty.

The sheriff says his office has been able to purchase three additional vests through other donations made to the sheriff’s foundation. He says a total of eight officers have received the new body armor to replace equipment they had wish has reached the end of its effective usefulness.

The sheriff and his officers extend their thanks and appreciation to these children and all donors who have made these new vest possible. Sheriff Montgomery says it is heartwarming to know the officers have the support of such a caring community.
