Columbia RecordsWhat does a Nobel Prize winner do for an encore? In Bob Dylan‘s case, he puts out the first triple album of his career. The legendary singer/songwriter and recent Nobel Prize in Literature honoree will release a three-disc collection, titled Triplicate, on March 31.
Like Dylan’s previous two studio efforts, 2015’s Shadows in the Night and 2016’s Fallen Angels, Triplicate features renditions of vintage tunes penned by a variety of renowned American songwriters. Each disc contains 10 tracks and features a separate title and theme: Disc one is called ‘Til the Sun Goes Down, disc two Devil Dolls and disc three Comin’ Home Late.
Among the well-known songs Dylan covers on Triplicate are “Stormy Weather” by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler; “As Time Goes By” by Harold Hupfield; “The Best Is Yet to Come” by Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh; “Sentimental Journey” by Les Brown, Ben Homer and Bud Green; and “Stardust” by Hoagy Carmichael.
Triplicate was produced by Dylan under his Jack Frost pseudonym, and was recorded with his touring band at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, where he also made Shadows in the Night and Fallen Angels.
The upcoming album will be available as a three-CD set, a three-LP vinyl collection, a deluxe three-disc vinyl set packaged in a numbered case and a digital download. One track from Triplicate, “I Could Have Told You,” can be purchased now at iTunes. You also can listen to the tune via a “vinyl video” that’s been posted at Dylan’s official website and VEVO YouTube channel.
