District 100 State Representative Nelda Speaks filed a resolution Thursday to expand sections of the East-West Corridor of Route 412. House Concurrent Resolution 1007 seeks federal approval for the United States Government to fund a project which would provide more passing lanes.

Speaks says the northern part of Arkansas extending from Jonesboro to Rogers has a lot to offer, however nearly all communities in that area are experiencing a decline in economic prosperity due to the lack of accessibility.

Speaks says the expansion would be beneficial to the state, Baxter County and any smaller town along the stretch of highway. She believes the change would create more jobs and increased tourism.

Local Senator Scott Flippo is a co-sponsor of the resolution.

It is now headed to the House Public Transportation Committee meeting scheduled for 10:00 Tuesday morning.
