
Across the country students and teachers are celebrating February as Career and Technical Education Month. As part of the month long celebration, the week of the 5th through the 11th will honor the students and advisors of FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America. Mountain Home FBLA Advisor, Sherri Smith says not all FBLA students are studying business, but have diverse interests and backgrounds.
The Mountain Home High School chapter of FBLA has a number of events planned to celebrate the week, according to senior Maddy Lewis, one of Smith’s students.

Governor Asa Hutchinson declared Tuesday, February 2, CTSO Day. All state officers from career technical state organizations, including FBLA were invited to the Capital in Little Rock for the signing of the proclamation. Among those in attendance were Smith and one of her students, Courtney Green, state treasurer for FBLA.
At the recent District VI Leadership Conference held at ASU-MH, Mountain Home high school junior, Jackson Steiner, who is District President, was elected State Vice President. In his position, he says he will be attending state, regional and national conferences.

Smith, who has been an FBLA advisor for eight years, says she enjoys watching students grow and develop their confidence and self-esteem.

FBLA starts in the 6th grade and continues beyond high school into college as Phi Beta Lambda and after graduation into the professional division.
