Two Mountain Home High School students, who are part of the EAST Initiative, are working with the Mountain Home Parks and Recreation Department to develop a Hammock Garden in McCabe City Park. EAST facilitator at Mountain Home High School Jackie Meisner says EAST, which stands for Environmental and spatial technology, is a community driven class where students learn and develop on their own by working their community to solve problems using their creativity and the latest technology.

The young men used a sketch application to develop a 3-D design of the garden as well as math applications to solve equations and other applications to survey students to determine potential usage of the garden. They then took their project to Mountain Home Mayor Joe Dillard and Parks Director Billy D. Austin for approval and support.

The Hammock Garden in McCabe Park will be open to adults, children, teenagers and families who will need to provide their own hammocks. It’s design is hexagonal in shape with steel posts and hooks set up for up to twelve hammocks at different heights.

Davis and Reding are responsible for raising the funds for the project’s construction and maintenance which includes the professional construction and landscaping. Davis and Reding have raised nearly the entire $2,700 needed for the Hammock Garden which is expected to be completed by spring of this year. Sponsors will be acknowledge with metal plaques on each pole in the garden.

Anyone interested in donating funds for the Hammock Garden in McCabe Park can contact Davis at 421-9174 or Reding at 405-6779. Anyone interested in this project or other EAST projects can contact Meisner at Mountain Home High School, 425-1215.
