The Gainesville High School girls’ basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Lady Tiger Invitational Tournament in Seymour, and one player hit a milestone. The Lady Bulldogs’ Michia Jenkins reached the 1,000-career point mark Thursday on the way to helping her team to a 65-35 victory over the host team. Gainesville, ranked fifth in Class 2 in the most recent polls, is currently 22-1 on the season.



The Mountain Home freshmen teams had mixed results in the opening night of the Northwest Arkansas Classic at Harrison.

The Junior Lady Bombers began the night by defeating Farmington 52-45. Mountain Home will return to Harrison on Saturday to play in the championship game at noon.

Mountain Home did not fare as well in the boys’ bracket as they were edged out by Farmington 48-47. Wyatt Gilbert led the Junior Bombers with 14 points, and Mat Jones added ten. Mountain Home falls to 10-10 on the season, and they’ll begin conference tournament play on Monday.



The semifinals of the 2A/1A-3 Junior District Tournament were held Thursday at Izard County High School in Brockwell.

Norfork’s girls watched their season come to an end as they lost to Flippin 37-26. The Junior Lady Panthers were led by Hannah Bryant with 18 points. For the Junior Lady Bobcats, Kyra Hargrove scored 14 points.

Flippin’s opponent in Saturday’s championship game will be Viola after they eliminated Calico Rock 49-31. Braidlyn Fierce was the Junior Lady Longhorns’ top scorer with 17 points, and Keyara Moore and Lindsey Browning chipped in ten each.

It was a different result for Viola on the boys’ side as they fell to Izard County 62-28. Coby Everett paced the Junior Cougars with 23 points, and Caleb Faulkner had 21. Izard County improves to 19-5 on the year.

Salem was bounced from the other boys’ semifinal as they fell to Mammoth Spring 37-28. The Junior Greyhounds were led by Tyler Guffey with 13 points. For the Junior Bears, Zack Flynn finished with 16 points. Mammoth Spring’s record is now 18-5.



Yellville-Summit is hosting the 3A-1 East Conference Junior High Tournament. In girl’s games Thursday night, Mountain View edged Valley Springs 37-35 and Melbourne got past Bergman 38-32.

In boy’s action, Marshall beat Clinton 53-32 and Bergman defeated Valley Springs 44-35.



Western Grove was able to sweep the championship games of the 1A-1 East Junior Conference Tournament on their home floor. The Junior Lady Warriors began by beating Jasper 50-26. Western Grove’s boys followed by doubling up Deer 36-18.
