
The National Forest Service is conducting three prescribed burns in the area Friday. The largest burn will be in Searcy County near Tilly affecting nearly 1000 acres in the Big Piney Ranger District. Another burn will be of nearly 200 acres in the Sylamore/St. Francis Ranger District near Fifty-Six in Stone County. The third burn, near Jasper in Newton County, will be of nearly 120 acres of the Buffalo National River.
A prescribed burn is ignited by highly trained fire personnel under specified fuel and weather conditions to achieve specific resource objectives.
