27 local teams advance to regional tournaments

Regional basketball tournaments begin Wednesday throughout the Natural State, and 27 local teams will see action.



Two area girls’ teams will be in Carlisle for the Class 2A North Regional Tournament. Salem meets Brinkley Wednesday at four p.m., and Cotter faces Earle Thursday at 4:00.



Calico Rock’s Harold Ray Jeffrey Gymnasium will be the site for the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament. In girls’ action, the host Lady Pirates take on Bay at Wednesday at 4:00, and Norfork will be paired with Armorel Wednesday at 7:00, Izard County plays Rector Thursday at 4:00, and Mammoth Spring will be matched up with Maynard Thursday at 7:00. On the boys’ side, Norfork meets Bay at Wednesday 5:30, Izard County faces Armorel Wednesday at 8:30, Mammoth Spring takes on Rector Thursday at 5:30, and Calico Rock goes up against Ridgefield Christian Thursday at 8:30.



Six local teams will go to Riverside High School in Lake City for the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament. On the girls’ bracket, Mountain View tips off against Corning Wednesday at 4:00, Bergman plays Osceola Wednesday at 7:00, and Valley Springs will be paired with the host Lady Rebels Thursday at 4:00. In the boys’ games, Yellville-Summit meets Riverside Wednesday at 5:30, Marshall faces Rivercrest Thursday at 5:30, and Valley Springs takes on Manila Thursday at 8:30.



The Class 1A Region 1 Tournament will be held at Omaha. Lead Hill will play a doubleheader against Jasper starting with the girls Wednesday at 7:00, St. Joe’s girls have Thursday’s first game at 4:00 against Alpena, and Omaha will play back-to-back games against Western Grove Thursday beginning with the girls at 7:00.



Two area teams will play their first games in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament at Mount Vernon-Enola High School on Thursday. Rural Special’s girls will meet the host Lady Warhawks at 4:00, and the Timbo boys face Marvell at 8:30.
