Two Baxter County residents were arrested on felony drug charges Wednesday afternoon during a probation check at a residence near Midway. Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says 45 year old Mikel Blaine Short and 28 year old Cynthia Marie Piatt were released from the Baxter County jail after posting $50,000 bond each. They were both charged with possession of methamphetamine and a schedule VI controlled substance with intent to deliver, exposure of a child to meth as well as felony and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the sheriff, when officers from his office and the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections were conducting a probation compliance check at Short’s residence on County Road 508, they found about 5.6 grams of them, Diazepam in pill form, a smoking device used for meth, scales and a metal spoon with a crystal substance.

The sheriff says a minor child, who also resides at the home, had access to the areas where the drugs were found.

Both Mikel Blaine Short and Cynthia Marie Piatt were scheduled to appear in circuit court Thursday.

The Baxter County Sheriff’s officers were assisted by officers from the Mountain Home Police, Arkansas State Police and 14th Judicial Drug Task Force.
