February drier than normal



   The month of February ended drier than normal with rainfall at 2.08 of an inch recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits 101.7 and The Boot, the official weather reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service. Average rainfall for February is an even three inches. The wettest February on record was in 1989 when 9.31 inches fell. The driest February on record was in 1972 with only .49 of an inch. This February the Twin Lakes Area saw four days of precipitation with the 15th having the most at 0.8 of an inch.

   February also set records for having the warmest days recorded when the thermometer topped out at 77 degrees on the 8th and 82 degrees on the 12th. The previous record for the 8th was 75 degrees set back in 1943 and 81 degrees on the 12th in 1961. The hottest February ever recorded was 87 degrees in 1962.

   The lowest temperature of the month was on February 4th when the thermometer fell to 21 degrees. The lowest February the area has seen was negative 14 degrees in 1951.

   No snow fell in February 2017, which has seen record snowfall in years past. In February, 1993 20 inches of snow fell making it the second snowiest month ever recorded.
