Local officials of the Law Appreciation Committee gathered at Mountain Home City Hall Wednesday to introduce an upcoming community wide event entitled Building Cooler Communities to show support for some 215 local law enforcement and support staff throughout Baxter County. The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 8th inside the Vada Sheid Center on the Arkansas State University Mountain Home campus from 4:00 in the afternoon to 8:00 in the evening. The committee also discussed a timeline of activities to take place throughout the day.
It is sponsored by the Twin Lakes Retired Police Officers Scholarship Foundation and the Elks Club Lodge number 1714. Engel brand coolers and drybox storage containers will be filled with ice and bottled water, then presented to law enforcement personnel.
Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is scheduled to speak and live music is scheduled for the afternoon from The Kattie Laney Project, Easy Roads, Mellow Mountain Band and Kepler 9.
According to Mountain Home Mayor Joe Dillard the idea came from City Treasurer Deborah Cotter and Baxter Regional Medical Center security employee Mary Edwards.
Mayor Dillard says showing community support for law enforcement in the city and Baxter County is important, especially during a time when it seems law enforcement is under public scrutiny across the nation. Final plans are in the works and more information will be released at a later date.
Donations to the event can be mailed to the Twin Lakes Retired Police Officers-Coooler Communities at 2933 Sycamore Springs Road in Mountain Home or dropped off at Mountain Home City Hall.
For more information or to volunteer for the event call Mountain Home City Hall at 870-425-5116.
