Jason Kempin/Getty Images for Tibet House USThe 2017 Tibet House U.S. Benefit Concert took place Wednesday night at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, and featured performances by Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, members of New Order and others. The show was highlighted by a few memorable collaborations, including a finale that saw Smith join Pop and the evening’s other performers for a rendition of her song “People Have the Power.”
Smith also sang a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” during her set. Iggy, meanwhile, teamed up with New Order’s Bernard Sumner, Phil Cunningham and Tom Chapman for several songs, including a rendition of Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control.”
In addition, avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed‘s widow, performed with renowned composer Philip Glass, who curated the concert and whose recent 80th birthday the event celebrated. Glass also joined Alabama Shakes during that band’s set.
The annual concert raises money Tibet House U.S., a non-profit organization founded in 1987 at the request of the Dalai Lama to preserve Tibetan culture.
