Coroner Hays named Arkansas Funeral Directors president

Baxter County Coroner Brad Hays has been named president of the Arkansas Funeral Directors Association. Hays is the 117th president of the association and serves as the manager of Roller Funeral Home of Mountain Home.The Arkansas Funeral Directors Association is the leading organization for the funeral home industry and serves its members through continuing education, advocacy and public relations. In addition, Hays says during his year as president his priority is to lead an effort across the state to adopt usage of the electronic ERAVE system. ERAVE is Arkansas’s electronic registration of vital records, including deaths, infant hearing screenings, births, and fetal deaths.

Hays says in his capacity as coroner he began utilizing the ERAVE system about two years ago.

Hays immediately began using the ERAVE system when it was rolled out. Since then, a number of funeral homes across the state have begun utilizing ERAVE. Hays wants to utilize his role as president of the association to encourage its use across the state.

He sees education as the first step in the process.

Other key players in the ERAVE process will include coroners and the state health department.

Hays began his career in the funeral service industry at the tender age of 14 at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. After working in the funeral home for several years, he continued his education by attending and completing his degree in funeral science from Arkansas State University Mountain Home.

Since graduating from ASUMH, he has continued to obtain many special certifications including credentialing as a sudden infant death investigator and aquatic death investigator.
