The Donald W. Reynolds Library serving Baxter County is giving local youth an opportunity to read to a dog. “Paws for Reading” is scheduled for Friday afternoon from four to five.

The program will pair independent readers in Kindergarten through third grade with certified therapy dogs. Sessions will be 15 minutes as a dog will patiently listen to a child read. According to the library, it is a low-pressure opportunity to help the child build confidence in his or her reading ability and communication skills.

Paws for Reading is provided at no charge. To register for a 15-minute session, call the Children’s Library at 870-580-0987, extension 2032.
