
Regional tournament play came to an end Monday in Arkansas.
Two local baseball teams faced each other in the third place game of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Armorel. Viola was able to defeat Mammoth Spring 6-2. Both teams will begin action in the Class 1A State Tournament on Wednesday. The Longhorns will play at Taylor Field in Pine Bluff, and the Bears will be at Woodlawn High School in Rison.
Lead Hill began the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament as the designated host school, and they ended the tournament as champions. The Tigers routed Shirley 17-7 at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. Lead Hill’s first state tournament game will be Thursday at Taylor Field.
Omaha ended up with a third place finish after pounding Alpena 19-4. The Eagles will start state tournament play Thursday at Woodlawn.
In softball, the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament came to an end at Armorel.
The third place game was played first as Viola fell to Izard County 9-1. Both teams will open the Class 1A State Tournament Wednesday at Pine Bluff Regional Park.
Calico Rock played for the championship but came up short. The Lady Pirates lost to Armorel 6-0. Calico Rock’s first state tournament game will be Thursday.
Rural Special finished fourth in the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Harrison. The Lady Rebels fell to Decatur 12-7. Rural Special’s first game at Pine Bluff will be Wednesday.
Salem ended up in fourth place in the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Palestine-Wheatley High School. The Lady Greyhounds were edged out by Hazen 2-1. Salem will start action in the Class 2A State Tournament Thursday at East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto.
Melbourne suffered two losses Monday in the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament at Manila to finish fourth. The Lady Bearkatz began the day by falling to Clinton 5-2 in the semifinals. Melbourne later lost the third place game to Walnut Ridge 12-5. The Lady Bearkatz will play Thursday in the Class 3A State Tournament on Cavender’s Field at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison.
