Arkansas State University Mountain Home held it’s twenty-first commencement Monday evening with over 400 local students graduating with an associate degree or technical certificate. 88 Students graduated with honors including ten summa cum laude, 15 magna cum laude, 27 cum laude, 34 Phi Theta Kappa and six with the Fran Coulter Honors Program.
The student address was given by Gabriel Apple, whose honors include magna cum laude, Phi Theta Kappa and the Fran Coulter Honors Program. In his speech he refers to the advice his grandfather gave him concerning his fear of taking the next step at the traditional University of Arkansas. His grandfather told him to find himself and if he didn’t like what he found, then he should change.
Apple says he has conjured his fear through the changes he is going through and has found hope in his future. He ended his speech with a nod to family who support those furthering their education.
