While restoration work is underway at the Jacob Wolf House at Norfork to return the luster of its glory days, the historic landmark will play a prominent role in this weekend’s annual Pioneer Days celebration.
In the final installation in our series, historic site manager Marlin Mowdy says like Pioneer Days, when the Wolf House served as a courthouse in what was then Izard County, it was an occasion when court convened.
Listen:
The Jacob Wolf House holds the distinction of being the oldest public structure in Arkansas. Mowdy says the two-story dog trot structure was a common one during territorial time for public facilities.
Just as the Jacob Wolf House at Norfork was the focal point of activity during the late 1800’s, it will be once again this weekend during the annual Pioneer Days festivities. Mowdy says the activities run from 7 to 3:30 on Saturday.
Listen:
For those unable to visit the Wolf House during Pioneer Days on Saturday, Mowdy is on site Monday through Friday 8 to 4:30 with impromptu tours available.
