Paralyzed veterans fishing trip set for June 4

Tim Curtis of Bull Shoals was over 300 miles from the White River sitting at a sports show in Oklahoma City five years ago when he had an inspiration as he talked with the president of the Paralyzed Veterans Association of America.

Efforts were underway at the sports show to raise funds for wheelchair lifts for paralyzed veterans when Curtis asked the association president to consider a float and fishing trip for these American heroes.

As a result, this year marks the fifth paralyzed veterans fishing trip on the White River that Curtis and his wife Pat have coordinated. Tim Curtis says this year’s two-day event kicks off June 4.

Curtis says thanks to the community and numerous donations, there is no cost to the paralyzed veterans for the trip. He says last year with donated $50 gift certificates, they were able to help defray their travel expenses.

Pat Curtis plays a key role in securing the donations, a gesture she says is certainly worth the effort.

Curtis says when they have the shore lunch on the morning of June 5 about 11:30, they invite the community to bring a sack lunch and join the true heroes.Tim Curtis says while the guides have donated their time to make the float trip possible, help is still needed.
