Gassville Mayor Jeff Braim says he has learned applying for a grant from the Delta Regional Authority would cut a portion of $237,000 in grant funds already approved by the United States Department of Agriculture for the wastewater expansion project. In Tuesday night’s meeting of the Gassville City Council, Mayor Braim says he learned of the grant funding issue from a representative of the Arkansas Economic Development District, and he provides this update.

Gassville City Attorney Ron Kincade was at the meeting on the city’s behalf for the loan and signed another contract for bond council representation for the USDA grant.

In other council news, Braim says water rates have been approved and area residents should see the new rates on their June bills reflecting May’s usage. The rates will be $15.48 per 2,000 gallons as a minimum. Each additional 1,000 gallons used will have a charge of $7.74.

The council also discussed future options for the Gassville branch of the library which closed May 12th. Shirley Mershon proposed creating an events center at the site. The council wants to see some sort of an official proposal and will address the idea at a later date.

In the mayor’s update, he says the Municipal League Convention is set for June 14th through the 16th in Little Rock.

The next city council meeting will be moved to Tuesday, June 27th at the regularly scheduled time.

It was also announced under upcoming events is Gassville in the Park set for June 3rd.
