The Yellville-Summit School Board began this month by announcing a new football coach during one of its meetings, but some alleged discrepancies have been reported in his job application. According to the Harrison Daily Times, new Panthers’ coach Brett Shrable is reported to have omitted some previous employment and reasons for leaving in his application.

When Shrable submitted his application to the district in late March, he was employed as a substitute teacher for the Marion School District. However, he allegedly put his last employer as the Quitman School District as he was their football coach from 2014 to 2016. In addition to his time at Marion, it is also reported Shrable left out the fact that he was the head coach at Newport for nearly a four-month period last year.

Shrable was hired by the Newport Special School District Board June 21st, but on October 11th, he was fired by a vote of 6-1. Superintendent Larry Bennett recommended Shrable’s termination for numerous reasons including repeatedly showing up late for work, being written up for being late, leaving work early and not showing up for work. The Yellville-Summit School Board did not have access to this information because Shrable did not list Newport as part of his previous employment.

Shrable did resign from his job at Quitman, but an article from the Sun Times in Heber Springs reports Quitman athletic director Gary Rieck says Shrable packed up and left overnight without informing anyone. This is supposedly similar to his time at Newport as he allegedly told the principal he could no longer work at the school and was cleaning out his office.

The Harrison Daily Times reports it obtained Shrable’s application from Yellville-Summit, and he asserts he had not been asked to resign or failed to be re-elected to a teaching position.

Shrable is a former graduate of Hoxie High School, and he played football on the collegiate level at Arkansas State.
