Joel Fried/Getty ImagesGregg Allman will be buried on Saturday in Macon, Georgia, and although the services will be private, the family is inviting fans to line the motorcade route between the funeral home and the cemetery, the Macon Telegraph reports.
Allman will be buried at Macon’s Rose Hill Cemetery, next to his brother Duane and late Allman Brothers band mate Berry Oakley.
“The family is hoping to keep this between 75 and 100 people,” Allman’s manager Michael Lehman tells the paper. And, he notes, at Gregg’s request, attire will be casual. “No suits,” Lehman says.
The memorial is set for 1 p.m. at Macon’s Snow’s Memorial Chapel.
Allman’s son, Devon Allman, tells Billboard he’s hoping to organize a public celebration of Allman’s life and music later this year, time around Gregg’s birth date of December 8.
“We are, once we get through the services, myself and his manager, I told him I had an idea about on his birthday having a big celebration of life for him in New York City, a big concert where all his friends can play, play his songs, donate the money to charity and just have a big love-in in his honor,” he says.
Devon also says more Allman music is coming. “There’s some things in the vault, and that’s certainly up to the family and management to kind of oversee,” he says. In addition, Devon reveals that Gregg’s final album, Southern Blood, is coming in September. “It’s a special record, for sure,” he says.
