Willard/iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The top of the NBA draft went as expected after a week of rampant speculation.
With the first pick in the draft, the Philadelphia 76ers followed the expected script and chose University of Washington point guard Markelle Fultz.
The Los Angeles Lakers chose hometown boy Lonzo Ball, from UCLA, with the second pick, and Boston got their man in forward Jason Tatum from Duke at number three.
The big trade of the night happened early. Chicago dealt forward Jimmy Butler to Minnesota, where Butler will be reunited with his former coach Tom Thibodeau. Minnesota also got Chicago’s 16th pick in the draft and sent back the number seven pick, point guard Kris Dunn and forward Zach Lavine.
