
The Gassville City Council has failed to support the proposed Marketplace Fairness Act that would enable state governments to collect sales and use taxes from online retailers with no physical presence in Arkansas. The action came in the council’s meeting Tuesday evening.
Gassville Mayor Jeff Braim says with Alderman Rob Bird absent, after a motion to approve, the resolution failed to move forward for lack of a second.
In other business, Mayor Braim says the council gave its approval to a resolution of a $120,000 loan from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.

Mayor Braim says the council also gave its approval to a USDA grant of $237,000 and a loan of $365,000.

Mayor Braim also updated the council on future possible use of the former branch of the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County. While the city owned property cannot be sold, he says there is a possibility of the building being rented or leased with modifications. The council asked Mayor Braim to seek further direction from the city’s attorney.
The council was also advised the South School Street state aid project will go to bid on August 30.
