As residents and tourists plan for Independence Day celebrations, the city of Mountain Home and officials of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest are sending reminders of fireworks regulations and ordinances.
Mountain Home has an ordinance stating it’s unlawful for any person or business to sell, manufacture or use fireworks or other explosives within the city limits without obtaining a written permit issued by the Fire Marshal or Inspector and approved by the Fire Chief. Applications for a permit must be made five days prior to the requested date of discharging the fireworks, and permits can only be issued to a duly-certified pyrotechnics technician. Anyone in violation of the ordinance can be fined anywhere from $75 to $200.
In the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, it’s illegal to possess or discharge fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices on forest lands. Violations are punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for an organization, imprisonment for up to six months or both.
