Baxter County Sheriff reports calm holiday weekend

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says the Sheriff’s Office experienced a relatively calm Independence Day holiday weekend this year. Calls for service were up over last year, however the number of arrests and citations were fewer.There were 165 complaint calls or calls for service made to the Sheriff’s Office from Friday through Tuesday. There were 41 bookings made into the Baxter County Detention Center by all law enforcement agencies during this time covering 77 separate charges. Some of the charges were four individuals arrested for driving while intoxicated, three for boating while intoxicated and two for public intoxication.

Other charges include five individuals arrested for drug possession and six arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. 13 arrest warrants were served.

Several of those booked into the Detention Center had multiple charges.

In addition, deputies issued 11 citations for traffic violations or criminal misdemeanors and 12 warnings were given for traffic violations.

There were no serious incidents reported in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Sheriff’s deputies assisted with coordinating and monitoring the fireworks display at Norfork lake on July 3rd.

Montgomery says all area campgrounds and resorts appeared to be occupied at or near capacity.
