The Babe Ruth World Series for 13-year-olds arrives Thursday in Mountain Home and with it comes ten teams from all over the United States looking to claim the title of World Series Champs for 2017. This is the first time the national event has taken place in Mountain Home.
Tom Czanstkowski, Mountain Home Youth Baseball League President, and Brandy Jordan, World Series Chair and President, are serving as event organizers. They say teams arrived Tuesday and will begin activities Wednesday morning with a coach’s breakfast at 7:45 sharp at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church. A skills competition will be held at Cooper Park from noon until 3:00. The evening will end with a banquet at The Sheid, on the campus of Arkansas State University Mountain Home, at 6:00 with special speaker Steve Springer, a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays.
On Thursday there will be a parade on Main Street beginning at 10:00. Opening ceremonies will begin at 11:30 with a live broadcast on KTLO, Classic Hits 101.7 and The Boot beginning at 11:00. The Treasure Chest will be on hand with the opportunity to win $600. All of the games involving Mountain Home’s Blue Storm team, along with the championship game, will be broadcasted live on Classic Hits 101.7.
Czanstkowski says the series will showcase the talents of 10 teams, eight from outside the area.
According to Czanstkowski, Mountain Home has a tremendous reputation among the Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth organizations in the local talent and instruction of baseball and how tournaments are conducted here. It’s Mountain Home’s reputation that Czanstkowski says organizers predict will pay off in a big way for the community.
Czanstkowski says he has looked at two economic impact studies from 2015 and 2016 from other communities where World Series’ were held to gauge the expected windfall here. Organizers predict over one million dollars into the community coffers over a ten-day period.
He encourages sports fans to check out the event website, 13.baberuthworldseries.org or to download the mobile app by searching the app store for Babe Ruth League 13.
