(AP) – An Arkansas County farmer who had planned to run for a
congressional seat says he has a “pending legal matter” that will prevent him
from running for the post in eastern Arkansas.Mike Nelson had planned to run as a Democrat. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
reports that he did not elaborate on why he was leaving the race.

Nelson’s decision leaves Marmaduke retiree Robert Butler as the only Democrat
in the 2018 race. Butler says he has already filed paperwork with the Federal
Election Commission.

The seat is currently held by Republican Rick Crawford, who has $367,000 on
hand for an expected re-election bid.
