A West Plains man, 35-year-old Michael S. Byrd, is being held in the Fulton County jail in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a Fulton County pharmacy during the weekend.

According to Fulton County Sheriff Al Roork, Byrd waived extradition from the Howell County Jail Tuesday to Fulton County authorities.

Byrd allegedly walked into Palace Drug in Mammoth Spring with a gun Saturday morning and demanded Oxycodone. He left with the drug driving a light-colored car with a Missouri license plate. Sheriff Roork says the man was identified minutes later, and a Be on the Lookout advisory was issued in surrounding counties in Arkansas and Missouri.

A Howell County deputy spotted the suspect Saturday evening in a silver Chevrolet Impala traveling southbound at a high rate of speed on Missouri Highway 17 toward Lanton. The deputy was able to get the vehicle stopped, and transported Byrd to the Howell County Jail.

He has been charged with aggravated robbery, which carries a penalty of 10 to 40 years or life, theft of property and trafficking a controlled substance, which carries a 10 to 40 or life penalty.

Byrd is scheduled to appear in Fulton County Circuit Court on September 20 to answer to the charges.
