August precipitation totals in top ten of all time

The month of August saw an above average amount of rainfall this year, narrowly edging out the tenth wettest August on record by .01 of an inch with a total rainfall of 6.36 inches recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits 101.7 and The Boot, the official weather reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service.

The average amount of rainfall for August is 2.59 inches. The wettest August on record was in 1942 when 8.62 inches fell.The driest August month on record was in the year 2000, when just .10 of an inch of rainfall was recorded.

The Twin Lakes Area last month saw 15 days of precipitation with the 16th having the most at 1.73 inches.

The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor, published August 29th, shows the entire Twin Lakes Area, along with the entire state of Arkansas, remains out of drought conditions.

August didn’t set any temperature records as temperature highs, measured in the past, range from the 110 degree range to 114 degrees. The warmest days last month tied at 92 degrees on the 20th and 21st. The hottest day ever recorded in August was on the 9th of 1934 when temperatures soared to 114 degrees, which still holds the number one spot of the hottest days ever recorded in Mountain Home.

The lowest temperature of the month was 59 degrees, occurring on the 24th. The lowest temperature ever recorded for August is 47 degrees which happened three times on August 16th of 1992, August 17th the same year and on August 29th back in 1975.
