MH hosting high school football against Harrison highlights Friday schedule

It’s the opening week of the high school football season in the Natural State, and Mountain Home will begin its 2017 campaign in front of the home crowd. The Bombers renew one of the oldest rivalries in Arkansas as they will play host to Harrison.
Mountain Home is coming off a season in which their record was 4-7. The Bombers ended 2016 with a three-touchdown loss at Benton in the opening round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
This year, Mountain Home will be under the direction of new leadership, and head coach Bryan Mattox says he looking forward to getting his team out on the field.

Harrison is in its third season with Joel Wells at the helm. The Goblins were 8-3 last season, and their last game was in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs when they were eliminated at home by Batesville.
Kickoff at Bomber Stadium is scheduled for seven p.m. Friday’s game can be heard on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com. Coverage begins at 5:30 with Arkansas High School Game Day.

Like Mountain Home, Yellville-Summit will start its season at home and under a new head coach. The Panthers will welcome Paris to the Twin Lakes Area to kick off the year.
Yellville-Summit’s record from a year ago was 1-8. The Panthers were able to end last season on a winning note after they edged out Marshall in the Battle of the Buffalo.
Lucas Morris takes over the reins after previous head coach Tommy Britt made the move to Cave City, and he says he’s pleased with the transition the team has made in learning a new system.

Paris ended up with a 7-5 mark in 2016. The Eagles advanced to the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs before falling at home to Fordyce.
Kickoff at Panther Field is set for 7:00.

Elsewhere on the local Arkansas schedule, Salem travels to Mountain View, Melbourne hosts Corning, and Marshall entertains Hector.
There is one game in the opening week that will pair two teams in the Arkansas Associated Press Top Ten. Fifth-ranked Greenwood is home against number ten Fort Smith Northside.
It’s week three of the football season in Missouri. Among the area schools, West Plains hosts Springfield Glendale, Hollister makes the trip to Logan-Rogersville, Forsyth heads to Lockwood, Ava travels to Mountain Grove, Willow Springs entertains Cabool, and Mountain View-Liberty makes the trip to Thayer.

In high school softball, Gainesville is home against Morrisville.
