The Theodosia Area Volunteer Fire Department will honor a junior firefighter whose remains were found nearly a month ago on her family farm in Ozark County. According to the Ozark County Times, a candlelight vigil and memorial service in honor of the late Savannah Leckie will be held September 9th at 7 p.m. at the firehouse on U.S. Highway 160 in Theodosia.

A procession of fire trucks and other emergency equipment from throughout the area will depart an hour before the service begins from Kyle’s Store across from the post office in Isabella, and it will proceed along Highway 160 to Theodosia. The Ozark County Firefighters Honor Guard will join the procession near the firehouse and lead it the final distance to the firehouse.

The memorial service is expected to last approximately an hour, and the candlelight vigil will follow. The speakers will include Theodosia Area Volunteer Fire Chief Tim Jeffrey, Ozark County Sheriff Darrin Reed, former Ozark County firefighter and EMT and former First Baptist Church of Gainesville pastor Mike Dillon and Pastor Lynn Jennings of North Star Community Church in Reuter. The public is invited, and participants are asked to bring lawn chairs for seating and a candle for the vigil. A limited number of candles will be provided.

Donations will be accepted at the service for a scholarship fund being set by the fire department. The scholarship will be in Leckie’s memory for Lutie School District students with special needs.

Leckie was reported missing July 20th, and her charred remains were found August 4th at the farm owned by her mother, Rebecca Ruud. Ruud is currently in the Ozark County Jail on several charges including first-degree murder.
