NIXA, Mo. (AP) A southwest Missouri city is looking to redesign its seal, its flag and the badge or its police officers and is offering a $1,000 prize in a contest.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that Nixa hopes to unveil the winning designs during a “State of the Community” dinner in November.
The current seal was designed by a high school art class in 1987 and features an eagle, a bear standing on its hind legs, a rising sun and a declaration that Nixa is a “city of opportunity.”
The flag for the city of about 21,000 people features the seal on a red background. Police officers’ badges include a simplified version.
City spokesman Drew Douglas said it doesn’t have any description for what the symbols in the seal are supposed to represent.
