Buffalo Point to get new waste water facility

The Buffalo Point Campgound will soon be in the process of having a new waste water treatment facility installed. According to Buffalo National River officials, the campground’s flush restrooms, shower facilities and various camping loops will be closed for the remainder of the season beginning Tuesday.

The existing water treatment system received the overall award from the Arkansas Water Works and Water Environment Association in 2012 for Small Wastewater Systems, and it’s still fully functional. However, the park has sinced received funding for a system update. Buffalo Point will have porta potties installed for visitors to use in areas adjacent to the current restroom facilities.

The D and E Loops will be closed to all campers beginning Tuesday due to the construction. The A, B, and C Loops, walk-in tent sites, Pavilion 2 and Pavilion 3 will remain open through November 15th, but it’s strictly on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations will be unavailable through recreation.gov.

The five group sites and Pavilion 1 will have flush restrooms available and can be reserved through November 15th. The Buffalo Point Concession Cabins will also remain open and available for reservations this fall. For more information, contact the Buffalo Point Visitor Contact Station at 870-449-4311.
