The Yellville City Parks Commission is looking to start a new project to enhance the city park. The commission applied for a 50/50 grant from Arkansas Parks and Tourism to build a splash pad at the park.
The grant application was written on behalf of the city of Yellville by the Northwest Arkansas Economic Development District. Tina Cole of NWAEDD says a splash pad would bring entertainment not only to children, but to adults as well.

Cole says the project would cost nearly $305,000. If the 50/50 grant application was to be approved, Arkansas Parks and Tourism would provide half of the funding necessary to pay for the project. Yellville City Parks Commission Chairman Lyn Baker recently told the Harrison Daily Times if the application gets denied, he believes they would still be able to raise the funds for the splash pad thanks in part to donations they have already received.
Cole says other grants have been submitted to various agencies for more projcets at the park.

The grant application for the t-ball field was originally turned down by the Arkansas Department of Rural Services in the spring. Cole says they have since submitted a second application.
No expected timetable has been announced on the grant application for the splash pad, but if the city gets the green light from Parks and Tourism, Baker says the length of time on the construction phase could be as little as 90 days. Cole says currently, the nearest splash pad to Yellville is located in Branson.
