(AP) _ Leaders in Benton County have delayed a decision on whether to allow a proposed medical marijuana cultivation facility in the county. The county’s planning board voted unanimously Wednesday to table any action on the proposed facility until Sept. 20. The proposal would create a growing facility for marijuana on a 20-acre site near Gentry, about 160 miles (257 kilometers) northwest of Little Rock.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that about a dozen people spoke out Wednesday against the facility, citing concerns about traffic, crime and environmental issues.

Arkansas voters legalized medical marijuana last year and the state is now working to implement the program. The state is accepting applications until Sept. 18 for five cultivator permits and 32 dispensary permits.
