A vehicle has been recovered after having been submerged in Lake Norfork. According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, the vehicle was allegedly stolen from Ozark County.

The sheriff’s office took a call Thursday morning of a submerged vehicle in the Calamity Beach area. Deputies responded and found a four-door passenger car with a Michigan license plate in the water with several clothing items and a spare tire floating nearby.

A sheriff’s office diver came to the scene to inspect the vehicle and didn’t find anyone inside or in the vicinity. The vehicle’s back glass was broken out, and the front windshield was pushed in but still intact. A large rock was on top of the accelerator. The vehicle was eventually removed from the water by a towing company.

The sheriff’s office was able to track down the vehicle’s owner who resides in Ozark County. The owner told deputies he has already reported the vehicle stolen to the Ozark County Sheriff’s Department.
