The Sugar Creek Astronomical Society, in cooperation with the Arkansas Chapter of the International Dark Sky Association, is hosting a star party Friday at Tyler Bend on the Buffalo River. Under the dark skies of the nation’s first National River, visitors can tour a river of stars in the sky, the Summer Milky Way, and perhaps catch a stray meteor or two.

A program on light pollution and a night sky orientation will begin at 6:30 pm followed by star viewing at 7:30 pm. The Sugar Creek Astronomy Club will have several telescopes set up for the public to utilize. This free, family-friendly event will have activities for children too. All programming will take place in an open field near Group Site #5 at Tyler Bend.

Attendees are asked to bring a chair, non-white flashlight (preferably red), and bug repellent. There will be an alternate date of Saturday, September 16 if rain or clouds move into the Tyler Bend area on Friday night.
